LAFAYETTE — Dozens of animal lovers gathered to remember their late furry friends, while also celebrating pets still living and those hoping to find forever homes, during National Pet Memorial Day at Abbey Glen Memorial Park on Sunday.
The event featured several attractions both for humans and their animal companions, including therapeutic horse riding and blessings from ordained pet minister Joe Dwyer. Several animal shelters were also on hand with plenty of pets available for adoption.
Abbey Glen Administrator Heidi Conkling said it was difficult to estimate the total number of attendees, but a steady flow of people “trickled through” the premises throughout the day. She noted that many visitors who did not previously know one another grew close while talking about their respective losses.
